Giant Knits

It's getting cold outside, so it's time to warm up.
Recently I found an amazing large knitted beenie at H&M. It has become a strong inspiration for me to look for something as stunning and beautiful as this hat.

Balenciaga always has been one of my favourite designers. Nicolas Ghesquière has become his brilliant successor. The way he add volume to different textures always fascinated me.
His Fall 2002 show for Balenciaga Nicolas closed with the dramatic, shaggy ivory coats, which looked like soft sculptures.

Fall 2011 collection was no exception. The jackets and bags he showed with below-the-knee skirts were knitted as they were from giant ribbons of faux leather.
In Ghesquière's words,
"The season is a game of proportion, zooming in on textures, the way seeing things with a loop [a magnifying glass] can give you different, shifting points of view. It's a bit surrealist."

Giles Deacon has also experimented with enlarged knitting.

Another knitwear brand is Nanna Van Blaaderen. Nanna is Dutch designer.
The sculptural handknitted collection 'More or Less' is inspired by organic forms, animal life and nature. Using thick woolen yarns in off-white colors, Nanna van Blaaderen experimented in combining knitting techniques with braiding techniques. This resulted in various expressive garments of voluminous structures and forms.

Trends - Pastel Coat

Oversized candy-like pastel coat is a must-have for this season. It should be soft and lightweight like a marshmallow and warm like a plaid.
The most delicious ones have been noticed at Rochas, Celine and Carven f/w 2013 shows.

This trend comes from 1950s. The fall 2013 collections of the above designers were definitely inspired by pastel tones of this beautiful era.

Advertising and American magazines cover of the end of 19th - early 20th century

This summer The Puskin State Museum of Fine Arts presents a unique collection of american mag covers from the end of 19th to the beginning of 20th century. It shows the changing of external image of the magazines.

At first, the newspaper module of a simple paper cover of 1850s was replaced by Victorian style with luxurious ornate decor. Then the principles have changed: the cover has been occupied by enlarged images of figures or faces.

Right: Vogue March 1914

At the turn of 19th and 20th century the idea of luxury magazines addressed to elected public has changed the requirements for cover solutions. It's appealed basically to the tastes of consumers.
The 1910s brought the Art Deco style.

The exhibition presents the covers of such publictions as Harper's Bazar, Vogue, Vanity Fair, Chap-Book and others.

The exhibition is open until 6.10.2013.
